- Inter-Research Editors-in-Chief: 2011 Annual Report. A summary is provided here.
- Poster awards (aquatic enzymology): The scientific committee of The Fourth International Conference — Enzymes in the Environment: Activity, Ecology and Applications (Bad Nauheim, July 2011) — has selected 6 participants as prize winners for their poster presentations. They have been granted free receipt of Aquatic Microbial Ecology (AME) for 1 year.
- Author fees for colour printing abolished. No charge is made to authors for printing of colour figures, as long as the use of colour is appropriate. This policy now applies to all Inter-Research journals (for MEPS, AME and DAO: applies to manuscripts accepted after 5 September 2011).
- ECI Prize Awards 2011: The Ecology Institute Jury chaired by Professor Michel Loreau has elected Prof. Georgina M. Mace (Imperial College, Ascot, Berkshire, United Kingdom) as winner of the Excellence in Ecology Prize, and Dr. Jérôme Chave (Laboratoire Evolution et Diversité Biologique (EDB), Toulouse, France) as winner of the IRPE (International Recognition of Professional Excellence) Prize.

- The IR journal Ethics in Science and Environmental Politics (ESEP) has published a Theme Section on 'The ethics of science journalism'. A new Theme Section 'Ethical implications of bioprospecting in polar regions' is currently underway. Contributions are invited.
- Marine Ecology Book Series now available as pdf.
It is a great pleasure for Inter-Research to present the electronic versions of "Marine Ecology" in form of open access. It was organized and edited by Otto Kinne and printed by Wiley & Sons from 1970 to 1984. - Theme Sections / Specials
Inter-Research (IR) welcomes Theme Sections (TSs) and Special Issues. Leading scientists interested in initiating and coordinating such a TS / Special for any IR journal are invited to submit proposals (address to the President of IR) with: (1) List of Guest Editors; (2) List of authors and topics; (3) Timeline (deadline for submission etc.). Target length for a TS / Special is less than 100 printed pages. The mss must be subjected to the usual peer review (3 to 4 referees). - Changes in editorial structures.
